Not knowing the right people plus a lack of required skills can destroy your chance of getting that dream job of yours. These are not the only things that could do this. Many things prevent us, and we can’t usually control them.

According to a survey put together by VitalSmarts 83% of the interviewed people mentioned that they had seen someone make a mistake with catastrophic results for their career, reputation, or business. 69 percent of the participants confirmed that they themselves had done something that had a major impact on their careers:

  • 31% said it cost them a promotion, a raise, or even a job
  • 27% said it damaged a working relationship
  • 11% said it destroyed their reputation

You may not be able to change the past, but you can always change your present for a better future. There are three main things that you should immediately stop doing because it can cost you a whole career.

Absence of Enthusiasm – is the leading cause of losing your dream job. Job interviews are happening because recruiters not only want to review your skills but also want to see the enthusiasm you have towards the position. Expressing this characteristic will land you the job because every recruiter wants to know how engaged you’ll be on the job inside their company.

Social Media – Posts published on social media can make us or break us. Some employers inspect candidate profiles thoroughly to avoid an unwanted situation in the future. So, negative posts can hurt you. You must delete everything you consider is harmful, discriminative, or offensive.

Work Ethic – There are multiple ways in which you can show your work ethic. For example, speak about your previous job and your willingness to keep working regardless of the importance of the project you were working on.

Low emotional intelligence (EQ) – Emotional outbursts, belittling others, shutting co-workers down when they speak, low self-awareness, and generally being difficult could take its toll if you don’t watch out for it.

Remember that you must show a high amount of enthusiasm, remove negative posts from your social media, and present never before seen work ethic. These are for sure going to help you with the job you dream about for a long time.
